Životopis:
Ne-Yo se na prahu nového století ještě pod svým občanským jménem Shaffer Smith uvedl řadou skladeb pro hvězdy formátu Mary J. Blige či Faith Evans. Proto až tolik nepřekvapí, že jeho prvotina In My Own Words představuje ryze (spolu)autorskou záležitost, na které nenajdete příliš mnoho vypůjčených samplů, ani hostů. Dvanáct skladeb v čele se singlovým hitem So Sick charakterizují silné melodické nápady, současný hudební jazyk, ale rovněž občasné reminiscence sedmdesátých a osmdesátých let, jež vyvolávají téměř lehkou nostalgii. Ne-Yo je víc invenční autor nežli výrazný zpěvák, ale svůj poněkud omezený rozsah i témbr dohání neomylným feelingem. Každopádně máme tu čest možná s vůbec nejvýraznějším r&b debutem letošního roku.
